To produce the canvases of the series 225170 pièces et autant de restes, the artist de/painted; in other words, he built form by subtracting paint. In his studio, the floor around the paintings is strewn with thousands of tiny bits of plastic film. These snippets of cut-out, pasted, painted and cut-away vinyl suggest that the painting surfaces have been peeled, which is in fact the case. This typology of actions, readable in the surface wear, inevitably produces remnants, but it is also the source of the painted motifs. (Excerpt from Marie-Eve Beaupré's text)
