The demi-mesure project stages two subjects with opposing universes. Between function and fiction, meeting devices materialize in a poetry of distance. The protagonists engage in an exploration of the dynamics of opposition, complementarity and the tensions that emerge from them. Throughout interactions, color intrudes and acts as an intermediate space of sharing, complicity and convergence.
Biographical note
The demi-mesure duo brings together the practices of Clara Cousineau and Marion Paquette. Their collaborative corpus is activated by a multidisciplinary approach combining sculptures, performances and video documentation. The duo explores the potential of the “in-between condition” in in situ contexts and through activatable sculptural objects. The demi-mesure works, which oscillate between opposition and complementarity, highlight the effects that can be produced by the intersection of distinct polarities. Since 2020, their practice has been developed in the context of various group exhibitions, in France, Fol Film Festival (Paris, 2021) and in Canada, notably at L’Écart (Rouyn-Noranda, 2022), Dazibao (Montréal, 2022), with OFFTA (Montréal, 2021), La Bande Vidéo (Quebec City 2020) and Espace Transmission (Montréal, 2020).
