Published by Plein sud éditions under the direction of Ariane De Blois, with graphic design by Marie Tourigny, this artist’s book devoted to Anahita Norouzi reflects Plein sud’s longstanding editorial commitment, cultivated since 1985, to making the printed object a space for exhibition in its own right.
The publication sheds light on a lesser-known body of the artist’s work: photographs she made in Iran between 2004 and 2010, during the early years of her practice. These images reveal a search for identity and an aspiration for freedom that already anticipate the concerns explored in her current work. A text by Ariane De Blois situates these photographs within Norouzi’s artistic trajectory and explores the questions they raise.
The book takes the form of a photographic collection presented as a series of detachable postcards. It can be read as a book, or taken apart to remove the postcards, rearrange them, group them in new ways, or even send them. Each person who handles the publication is therefore invited to reconstruct the sequence of images in their own way. This gesture echoes one of the central ideas at play in the work: the possibility of reinventing a personal or collective narrative from fragments of memory.
