Anahita NorouziUnmapped Country
Published by Plein sud éditions under the direction of Ariane De Blois and with graphic design by Marie Tourigny, this artist’s book dedicated to Anahita Norouzi reflects the editorial vision that Plein sud has cultivated since 1985: to transform the printed object into an exhibition space in its own right.
It offers a glimpse into a little-known aspect of the artist’s work: the photographs she took in Iran between 2004 and 2010, during the early stages of her career. These images reflect a search for identity and a yearning for freedom that already foreshadow the themes of her current work. A text by Ariane De Blois situates them within her artistic journey and highlights their significance.
The book is presented as a photographic collection in the form of detachable postcards. It can be leafed through as is, or taken apart to detach the cards, arrange them, regroup them differently, or even send them. Each person who handles it is thus invited to rearrange the sequence of images in their own way. This act echoes what the work brings into play: the possibility of reinventing a narrative—both personal and collective—from fragments of memory.
