Presentation of the artist:
Born in 1973, Luce Meunier lives and works in the Canton of Valcourt, Quebec. For over twenty years, she has developed a painting practice focused on materiality, where the painter’s gesture is deliberately removed. As a self-taught artist, she explores the boundaries of the medium by designing systems that allow the material to unfold freely across the surface. Her approach is based on a deliberate economy of means, favoring a formal process in which production tools and application methods become integral to the work itself.
Through patient studio work, she investigates the properties of the support and the reactions of the material, letting time, movement, and flow guide the emergence of forms. Her works reflect a rigorous visual inquiry, where painting becomes a field of experimentation and poetry.
Her work was recently presented at Maison de la culture Claude Léveillée and at the Yvonne L. Bombardier Exhibition Centre (Valcourt) as part of retrospective exhibitions. She has exhibited across Canada, notably at Bradley Ertaskiran Gallery (Montreal), Christie Contemporary (Toronto), Karsh-Masson Gallery (Ottawa), the BIEC in Trois-Rivières, and the Dunlop Art Gallery (Regina). She has also participated in several artist residencies in Canada and France. Her works are included in both corporate and institutional collections
